Who’s responsible
Jack Matthews, trading as Made by Jack, a sole trader based in Wiltshire, United Kingdom. I’m the data controller for any personal data you send through this website. Email me at hello@madebyjack.co.uk for anything to do with your data.
What I collect
If you fill in the contact form on /contact, I receive and store the name and email you typed, the project type you picked (if any), the message you wrote, and the time you sent it.
That’s it. I don’t log your IP address, your device, your browser, or anything else about you behind the scenes. If you email me directly, the message lives in my inbox like any other email.
Why I use it
I use what you send me to write back to you about the project you mentioned, and — if we end up working together — to deliver the service and keep the paperwork the taxman expects.
For the legally-minded: my UK GDPR lawful bases are pre-contract and contract performance for replying and delivering, legitimate interests for the cookieless aggregate analytics, and legal obligation for accounting records.
I don’t add you to a newsletter, sell your details on, or use them for marketing of any kind.
Who else sees it
A very small number of trusted suppliers help me deliver this website. They act as data processors — they only handle your data on my instructions, and only for the categories of activity below:
- Hosting and infrastructure— for serving this website to your browser and storing enquiries securely. Primary storage is in the UK / European Economic Area.
- Email delivery— for letting me know when you send a message through the contact form, so I can reply to you quickly.
Where any of those suppliers is based outside the UK, I rely on the safeguards set out in UK GDPR (an adequacy decision, or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses) to protect your data. I’ll share specifics on request.
I won’t share your data with anyone else unless I’m legally required to.
How long I keep it
Enquiries that don’t turn into work get deleted within 12 months. If we end up working together, your contact details and project records stay with me for as long as we’re working together, plus up to 7 years afterwards to comply with UK accounting and tax record-keeping rules.
Want it gone sooner? Email me and I’ll delete it.
Cookies
This site doesn’t use any tracking, advertising, or third-party cookies — which is why there’s no cookie banner. The only cookies you might pick up are a strictly-necessary preference cookie for your light/dark theme choice, and (for me only) an admin login cookie on the private /admin area.
Analytics
I use a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics tool that tells me roughly how many people visited and which pages they looked at. It doesn’t fingerprint you, follow you across sites, or store any personal identifiers.
How it’s kept safe
Connections to this site are encrypted (HTTPS). Stored data sits behind authenticated admin access with hashed-and-salted passwords. If there’s ever a personal-data breach affecting you, I’ll tell you, and the ICO, within the 72-hour window UK GDPR requires.
Your rights
You can ask me at any time to:
- Tell you what I hold about you
- Correct anything that’s wrong
- Delete it (where I don’t legally need to keep it)
- Pause how I’m using it while we sort something out
- Send it back to you in a portable format
Email hello@madebyjack.co.uk and I’ll come back to you — almost always within a few days, and at the very latest within a month. No charge.
You’ve also got the right to complain to the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. If you’re ever in that position, please tell me first — I’d rather fix it.
No automated decisions
I don’t use any automated decision-making or profiling. Every reply and every quote comes from me reading your message.
Children
This site isn’t aimed at or marketed to people under 18, and I don’t knowingly collect data from children. If you’re a parent or guardian and think your child has sent me something, email me and I’ll delete it.
